The mirror mask is the only piece of this project that is not 3D printed. The mirrored parts are a double sided, see-through, reflective acrylic. The message in this piece is that we judge, and are judged by what we see in ourselves. And visa versa. It also represents our need to hide and not participate in fashion or our surroundings. Therefore reflecting our surroundings in order to hide and be invisible.
The hinges are hand cut and scored to fit each specific angle of the mirror mask and to enable the mask to be folded and put away. (Tucked away into your pocket or bag when you decide to join in, again). Each hinge is attached with micro screws. The mirror mask is worn on top of the positive section mask. (From image development). When worn, highlights of the section mask can be seen through the mirror mask from certain angles. (Which is quite beautiful and that if you look loosely enough, beauty and individualism can be found even in the seemingly invisible).
The DNA corset and joins is the central piece of this project. The joins represent the helix and even if you pass the same quality and mix of joins to different individuals (mass production) each person would build the frame differently to the other. The idealistic result to mass customization. Each complete join works in 360′ rotation on both sides of the X&Y axis.
The corset also demonstrates how this method of manufacture not only allows the change of the silhouette in an outward manner, but also functions in altering the silhouette by reduction, in the same way corsets were used in historical fashion. Therefore with the DNA corset, you can create a completely individual and changeable silhouette the alters shape of both your physical and illusionary form.
I like. The joins to Lego as they can easily be pulled apart or joined back together.
The idea is that you will then be able to render the silhouette with either cloth or other artifacts such as the 3D printed feathers.
